Fast internet speed? Keep dreaming

Dear Editor,

Re: Internet speed under Tui Samoa under the spotlight

What a lot of corporate bull. Having spent 30 years in I.C.T. I know that unless the I.S.P network infrastructure was 20 years old and totally maxed out on capacity, there would have been immediate benefits felt once connected to a faster internet gateway.

I.M.H.O., the I.S.Ps are stalling so they can make the most of the profit gouging while we continue to be frustrated by the possibly the world’s most expensive internet.

Months ago I predicted that our internet would not get cheaper, but we would be offered more data so that the corporate revenues will be maintained.

I’m glad to see that both have come out and admitted it, but still disappointed that it is taking so long to respond the benefits of a cable that was happening almost 12 months ago.

On another note, when are we going to see an expansion of the 4G networks to provide more coverage in villages, especially those frequented by tourists?

I imagine it will be a while considering that you can’t even get a decent 3G signal at one of the providers Salelologa office.

Anyway, I have seen an increase in peak speeds, but not in consistently in overall performance.

Considering the high prices we pay, it is best not to be able to stream content like the first world, as it will send us broke before we know it.

Until we can access plans for WST$1 per GB, keep dreaming about streaming content the rest of the world enjoys on their unlimited data plans that they get for about WST$100.
