The Samoa Women’s Futsal team returned with a Bronze Medal from the Oceania Football Confederation O.F.C. Youth Futsal tournament held in Auckland, New Zealand, last week.

Samoa both competed in the Men’s and Women’s divisions of the O.F.C. Futsal tournament.

Samoa Women’s Futsal team coach Valerio Raccuglia was happy and satisfied with the achievement of his team.

“It was a really good tournament and we had high hopes for both teams doing well given this being the first time we have had teams for this tournament.

“I think result wise, we deserved a little bit more, our performance was good in a couple of games and we played really good football.

Coach Raccuglia is hoping to promote the Futsal game in Samoa starting from the grass root level.

“Now we have to expose the game in the islands and try inviting young players who are keen to join the fun.

“To be able to get medal means being positive, it also means that we are in the right direction as well and it’s a boost when people come down and use our facilities.”

Coach Valerio Raccuglia also said they were positive of what they had achieved so far and the experience they’ve got from the tournament.

“We were able to learn few things from this tournament, and it was a fantastic experience, what was disappointing was that our men’s team didn’t get a medal and I think they deserved more.

“We have 4000 Futsal balls arrived yesterday and we will start distributing it to Primary Schools and get the Futsal game a go in the schools because we need more players and people to play this sport,” he said.
