A guest was found dead inside his hotel room last Saturday. This was confirmed by the Police in their weekly update.

Father charged with murder in son’s death

The Police are investigating the death of a man who allegedly died after he was beaten by his 58-year-old father. The incident was confirmed in a Police weekly update posted on their Facebook page. The 35-year-old man is from Vaitele fou and Safotu, Savai’i.

Police investigate death of toddler

The Ministry of Police is investigating the death of a one-year-old toddler who fell while being given a bath by his father. The Motootua hospital advised the police of the death last Friday. “The male baby who was alleged to have died after he fell whilst his father was trying to give him a bath.

Inquest into toddlers’ deaths adjourned

The inquest into the death of two babies in Savai’i following their vaccination in July this year has been adjourned to October 3. The adjournment will allow District Court Judge, Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma, to consider submissions by the prosecution and defense lawyers, before making a decision on whether he should adjourn the inquest until criminal proceedings against two nurses in the Supreme Court is completed.

Eva launches river rehabilitation project

The village of Eva on the northern coast of Upolu will be undergoing a river rehabilitation project to provide stability to the bank as well as widening and deepening of the channel. The rehabilitation project was made possible with the financial assistance of $50,000 from the Civil Society Support Programme in collaboration with U.N.D.P through the Adaptation fund.

Company lacked permit to quarry Savai’i land

The Tausala Matiu Company of Satupaitea did not have a “development consent permit” to quarry soil at Tafua-tai on Savai’i. The site was where a landslide occurred last Monday and killed three men and injured another two. The five men including the deceased were employees of the Tausala Matiu Company.

A small house where the trash is stored at the old Yazaki Building at Vaitele caught fire yesterday afternoon. But thanks to the quick response by the Fire and Emergency Services Authority, they were able to eliminate the fire before it spread.
