Samoa gets gold in body building

Tai Vili has won gold for Samoa in the over 70kgs category at the South Pacific Bodybuilding Championship in Rarotonga.

The tournament in the Cook Islands was held under the umbrella of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (I.F.B.B.). 

Other members of Team Samoa also won five silver medals and one bronze.

The two local representatives Mr. Samoa 2017, John Lemoa and current Mr. American Samoa 2018, Peniamina Petaia Matale won silver in their respective fields. 

There was only one female representative representing Samoa at the event, Natasha Stewart. 

There were around 40 bodybuilding contenders from the Cook Islands, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Samoa, American Samoa, New Zealand, Australia and Tonga who participated in the various class and weight categories at the National Auditorium in Cook Islands.

The overall winners of the main categories were: Tonga’s Manase Afuhaamango (Men’s Body Builder), Australia’s Adam Feis, (Men’s Physique), Tahiti’s Temoemoe Faremiro (Women’s Bikini) and New Caledonia’s Glenda Jirard (Women’s Physique).

According to the International Federation of Body Building (I.F.B.B.) Cook Islands president Joe Daniel, the IFBB South Pacific Oceania competition is up to international standards. 

President of the B.F.S., Romulus Leung Wai expressed his gratitude to the Samoan team for the effort in representing the country.

The next South Pacific Championship will be held next year in Tahiti with Samoa playing host in 2020 and Tonga the following year in 2021.
