An accident at Puipa’a on Saturday evening involving a rental Toyota Estima and a bus has claimed one life.

It was not possible to get a comment from the Police yesterday.

But an eyewitness, Nah Jr. TauānuuFolasā, told the Samoa Observer his vehicle was following the bus when the accident occurred.

“The Toyota Estima was heading to Apia but the bus was on its way to Leauva’a,” said Mr. Folasā.

“The driver of the Toyota Estima was a Chinese guy, he was speeding and he drove under the bus and the diesel tank of the bus exploded.”

According to Mr. Folasā, the deceased died while trying to save his niece and her baby.

“When the deceased man saw what was happening, he tried to grab his niece’s baby however he fell off and so he threw his niece’s baby back to one of the passengers.

“The baby boy has injuries on his head but the deceased’s niece has a broken arm.”

The eyewitness went on to say there were about six other people hospitalized.
