Everyone has a part to play in the development of families.

Faigalotu Afulili is no exception.

He says he works hard because he wants to contribute to the betterment of his family and community.

The 20-year-old works at Vaitele but lives in Matautu.

He moved from Savai’i to look for a job so that he can help his family especially his parents who remain at Falealupo and Tufutafoe

“My parents are still alive and I thought to myself I should start looking for a job to provide and help them,” he told the Village Voice.

“I want to help out I don’t want to depend on my siblings because they have their own families to develop and children to feed.

“For me I have to play a part helping my family out in earning money for them.”

His parents motivate him to work hard.

“My family is not that wealthy,” he said.

“At first I used to work for Frankie’s but I quit because the money I earn from them was not enough compared to my new job now. I earn $180 a week which is good for me and my family.”

Faigalotu understands that life comes with changes and challenges but it’s up to us to respond positively.

“Life nowadays is very hard especially for us the young generation.

“Even though I know it’s hard for me to stay here in Upolu while my parents are in Savai’i, I know the money I earn is a great help for them. So I don’t want to give up.”

Faigalotu agrees that the cost of living is very expensive.

“Some people complain and I’ll be lying if I say I don’t,” he said.

“But we’ve just got to do our best to manage whatever money we have. Little or much, we should be grateful that we are alive and well and are able to make a difference in our communities.”

Faigalotu said he is looking forward to Easter so he can spend some time with his family.
