One of Samoa’s most celebrated international stars is coming home.

Former Black Caps captain, Luteru Ross Poutoa Taylor, will be in the country at the end of the month.

Taylor and former Black Cap, Murphy Logo Su’a, are coming to help Samoa International Cricket Association (SICA) to grow its development.

“Like most sports in Samoa, there is a constant need for resources to support and implement grassroots and junior development programmes, with special focus on youth,” a statement from SICA said.

“Samoa International Cricket is no exception, as they partner with the Orator Hotel, Hyundai Samoa and Vailima Breweries to host a dinner on Friday 29 September 2017, to raise funds to assist with its grassroots and junior programmes.

“To further promote Samoa International Cricket and its work, special guests -- world renowned professional cricketer Luteru Ross Poutoa Lote Taylor and former Black Cap, Murphy Logo Su’a -- will be doing Questions and Answers on the night.”

Born 8 March 1984, Taylor plays for cricket franchise Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.

Considered one of the best cricketers to ever come from New Zealand, Taylor became the highest one day international (ODI) century maker for New Zealand, surpassing 16 by Nathan Astle, on 22 February 2017, with his seventeenth ODI century.

As of 2017, Taylor has played 81 tests for New Zealand, scoring 6,030 runs from 146 innings, with an average of 47.10.

He has scored 16 centuries in test cricket, including his highest of 290.

In 190 ODIs, Taylor has scored 6,486 runs from 176 innings. He has scored 17 centuries in ODIs and his highest score in the format is 131 not out. He averaged 44.12 in ODIs.

Taylor has also represented New Zealand in 73 T20 matches, scoring 1,256 runs, with a highest score of 63.

Everyone is invited to the evening with Taylor.

“It will be a night of fun, entertainment, raffles, an auction of Mr Taylor’s cricket playing gear, with great food and lots to drink.”

Tickets are available for $2,000 per table, for eight people. Tickets can be obtained from the Samoa International Cricket Office, Tuanaimato Sports Complex or by contacting 27729 or 757 1766.

“Show your support and purchase a ticket. You are actually helping the youth of Samoa realise their dreams through cricket, and the grassroots and junior development programmes.”
