A gift from the heart

In honour of Pinktober, children of the Samoa Victims Support Group (S.V.S.G.) handcrafted 100 pink sei which were donated to the Samoa Cancer Society on Thursday.

S.V.S.G. Board representative, Mulipola Anarosa Molio’o presented the sei as well as $1,000 to the Cancer Society team.

Mulipola said S.V.S.G. and the Cancer Society are two organisations working towards the same objective – to do good work for the people of Samoa.

“Cancer, like violence does not discriminate and especially women bear the brunt of these ills,” she said.

“It is with this connection that the children did this initiative, to show their care and give back to society the way they are taught at the shelter.”

Mulipola thanked the cancer society for working with patients all year round.

Cancer Society marketing manager, Verona Parker said she was inspired by the donation to bring the staff of the society to visit the S.V.S.G. shelter and the children to thank them in person.

“We are sisters on the same mission and we are so appreciative of you support,” she said.

“These sei they say a lot. I am proud to work together with you to make a difference.”

Non-governmental organisations often feel they have to compete, especially for funding, said Mulipola.

“There is great beauty in two N.G.O’s working together – everything comes to fruition when you are working in partnership.”

S.V.S.G’s 50 staff donated towards the monetary donation.
