A 30-year-old male, and a father of four, has learnt the hard way that a moment of indulgence may hold unfavourable consequences.

Faalili Pulusi, from the village of Tufulele, pleaded guilty to the theft of 11 bottles of Taula beer, valued at $36.30, from inside his former employer’s premises.

Pulusi was convicted and sentenced to six months supervision and 10 hours of community service as directed by the probation services.

The sentence was handed down by Chief Justice Patu Tiava’asu’e Falefatu Sapolu on 4 December 2017. 

According to the summary of facts, the accused was employed in the meat section of the Farmer Joe Supermarket at Saleimoa between 1st of March 2015 to the 30th of March 2016. 

The theft was discovered some time after the offense.

Pulusi was then questioned by the Police on 28 July this year, then charged on August 4.

The wife of the accused pleaded that her husband was a kind person and was a good character prior to the offence and along with his early guilty plea; it became the mitigating feature of the case.

The pre-sentence report showed that the accused completed Year 12 in school before being employed in a bakery. 

He was then later employed at the Farmer Joe Supermarket bakery before moving to the meat section when the incident occurred.

Pulusi’s employment was terminated and he is now self-employed selling pancakes, donuts and pork buns.
