Nothing in life comes easy.

Lauone Amosa, 40, a father of two from the village of Faleu Manono, believes that.

Village Voice team met Mr. Amosa after the Aana College prize giving ceremony yesterday afternoon.

“This year is my eldest son’s final year in high school and he will be going to the National University in Papaigalagala next year,” said Mr. Amosa.

“The main thing we should understand is that we won’t be able to achieve anything we want in life without determination.”

Mr. Amosa said his son’s journey is an example.

“As you know for my family, I am the only person who is supporting our family financially because I am a fisherman. Since my kids were young this was the way they were brought up.

“I have always wanted them to have a better life and good education, even though we struggle in terms of finance, my kids will always be my first priority.”

Mr. Amosa emphasized that most times his family would just have tea and “saka” and the money they had would be used for their children’s education.

“Now today, one of my children has graduated and completed high school, it’s a huge achievement for me as a parent.

“Glory is to God for my son’s achievement this year.

“Because to be honest, I did not have money to support his education and the way I used to provide for him and our family was not that easy because we all know how dangerous the sea can be, but I am thankful God that has never forsaken me.”

Mr. Amosa said he encountered challenges when out in the sea.

“Weather is the hardest challenge because if the weather is not good, I would have to think of another way to provide food for my family.

“Another challenge is when I get sick, when my body is tired and too weak to go out to the sea, but I will still be out there because my family depends on me.

“Plus the hot heat every day is definitely a not so friendly time to be at the sea.”

But all those obstacles are an encouraging factor for Mr. Amosa to work even harder for the sake of his family’s well-being.
