Suiamaiseterite Sua is the 2018 Dux for Vaimauga College.

The 19-year-old from Matautu, Vaivase and Vaiala is an arts student and came first in English, geography, history and computing.

She is the daughter of Kuata Sua and she dedicated her success to her late grandmother, Pamela Sua, who passed on recently.

Setting her eyes on the law profession, Suiamaiseterite is keen to become a lawyer in the future.

“I aim to be a lawyer in the future because most of my family members are doctors, accountants and becoming a lawyer is something different.”

“And also my father always wanted me to become a lawyer, as a profession to aim for, in my future. But during my journey this year, it was not easy.”

“It’s true what they say anything worth having does not come easily,” she said.

While acknowledging that mathematics was not her strength, Suiamaiseterite said she studied the subject, as her grandmother’s advice is that it is useful in many ways.

“My role models are my grandmothers and great grandmothers because they took care of me.”

“I had their support throughout my life and I felt content with their care and love for me,” she added.

The top student for the 13.2 class was 19-year-old Lotolotoi Solomona from Faleaseela, Nofoalii and Sinamoga.

She is an arts student and came first in mathematics and English and was first overall for mathematics at the Year 13 level.

“I have to admit that the road to success is full of thorns and broken roads.”

“I encountered a lot of obstacles during my academic year, but I managed to overcome them with the help of my mother and my friends.”

“It was not easy losing my father in 2016 because I looked up to him a lot, he guided me throughout my studies, but when he left I had to be independent,” she added.

Lotolotoi dedicated her awards to her grandmother Faalua Lole.

“My grandmother also helped raise me up and she means a lot to me too. I want to be a mathematician in the future because when it comes to Mathematics it helps my brain become very active.”

Lotolotoi is the daughter of Fuarosa Solomona and the late Solomona Poutu.
