College Principal arrested, charged
The Principal of a College facing sexual allegations involving a male student was arrested and charged yesterday.
This was confirmed by Police Superintendent, Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo.
“He’s charged with indecent assault and had since been remanded until 27 March, 2018, where he will appear in Court,” he said.
“He must sign with the criminal investigation division. More charges to follow.”
Last week, Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Loau Keneti Sio told the Samoa Observer that the Ministry was on the move to suspend the Principal.
“I will not let this type of activity happen under my watch. The allegations which have been confirmed are a clear breach of trust, the breach of ethics on all levels and most especially because this is the Principal and a student,” he said.
“See the issue at hand is that parents entrust their children to us for safekeeping during school hours, so when such issues occur, it violates the trust that parents have in the teachers."
“And I will never, for the life of me, show leniency in this type of situation.”
