Charges against Chinese businessmen withdrawn
Two Chinese businessmen, Xiaogi Fang and Zheng Jian, are free men.
It follows the prosecution’s application to withdraw the charges against them in the Supreme Court yesterday.
Mr. Fang and Mr. Jian appeared before Justice Lesatele Rapi Vaai yesterday.
Mauga Precious Chang represented the National Prosecution Office while Leota Raymond Shuster appeared for both defendants.
The two defendants faced five charges, which include one count of intentional damage and four counts of being armed with a dangerous weapon.
Mauga however informed the Court that they would like to withdraw the charges against the men.
She did not say why.
Lawyer Leota did not object to the application.
The court accepted the application. Justice Lesatele then withdrew and dismissed all five charges against Mr. Fang and Mr. Jian.
