A couple from New Zealand, who visited Savai’i, have returned with some very sad memories of their time there.

Two young boys who have since been charged by the police are responsible for it.

Police media officer, Maotaoali’i Kaioneta Kitiona, said a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old are facing charges of being armed with a dangerous weapon and causing grievous bodily harm.

The charges followed an incident where the couple were allegedly assaulted by the boys on the road.

From what the Police have been told, the couple were biking around the island when they came across the boys.

“They were playing on the side of the road and when the couple attempted to pass through, they stopped them and blocked their passage.”

Maotaoalii confirmed that one of the accused was armed with a machete.

“The Ministry is working closely with village councils to stop this kind of behavior.”

The boys are scheduled to appear in Court on 21 July 2016.

The alleged incident happened on the west side of Salega district.
