“If not now ...when?”

The theme is a challenging question for the M.E.S.C. Conference scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, 18 and 19 January, at the T.A.T.T.E. Conference Room, Sogi.

The Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, 17 January 2016 at the Matafele Methodist Church from 4-6 pm will give the Conference its meditative and spiritually uplifting start before the presentations on various topics for the next two days.

All stakeholders including teachers, parents and students are invited to attend.

This year’s Conference is open to all principals and teachers of government, mission and private schools in Upolu and Savaii.

Key topics to be covered by the presentations at the Conference include “Effective Leadership Strategies and Observed Practices”, “Best Literacy Practices” and other crucial areas related to this year’s theme.

The key opening address will be delivered by the Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi.

The Keynote Address for Day 1 will be presented by Fred Brooker, an Education Specialist from Australia with extensive international and regional experience in education.

His areas of expertise include learning assessments, teacher development, educational planning and management, education policy reform, adult education and institutional development.

Another special presentation is by Adonica Ihilani Kauwe Limon, a Health Research Specialist from Utah University, USA.

The participants will hear of the findings from a research she conducted in Samoa on Hygiene and Sanitation in Schools and the Impact on Student Learning.  The study will reinforce the need for schools to achieve the minimum service standards that are in place to improve the quality of learning environments for children.

Other presenters include school principals, school committees and village pastors, with representatives of mission and private schools, private organisations and Government Ministries, and the media.

The Conference will be held for two days from 9 am- 4pm.
