McDonald's Family Restaurant yesterday offered a helping hand to the Pacific Games through a generous donation of $200,000.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding and presentation of the cheque was carried out by the Chief Financial Officer of McDonald’s Samoa, Fuimaono Pemerika Suemai, and Chairman of the Pacific Games Committee, Loau Keneti Sio, who is also the Minister of Sports.

Fuimaono said McDonald’s was delighted to be able to help Samoa with the Games preparations.

“Although McDonald's does not have much, but our president and owner, has decided that we will give $200,000 to aid your office in preparations for what everyone is getting ready for,” said Fuimaono.

“McDonald’s believes that these games will benefit restaurants, hotels, transportation industries and many others because when these people fly in to compete and watch, they will be bringing in so much more money to boost our economy.

“So we wanted to be a part of all this, to lend a hand, to have a role for this big event coming up.

“We pray the event will be great and may God bless our athletes with many gold medals for the sake of our country.”

In response, Minister Loau expressed gratitude on behalf of the Pacific Games Office and the Government.

“I’m lovin’ it,” he said with a smile.

“We wish to thank McDonald's for their contribution, one of the world’s famous restaurants as they have lent their hand to sponsor and help with preparations leading up to the games in July.”

The Minister added that the road to the Games hasn’t been smooth.

“In truth, it hasn’t been easy. As we all know, the restaurant has gone through major renovations to their facilities spending so much money but you didn’t look at it like that, you have found it in your hearts to still lend a helping hand to the Pacific Games office with this donation.

“We look forward to putting this money into good use when hosting Pacific Games 2019; we extend our gratitude to your management especially Tautolo Aogaleatu Charlie.”

McDonald's also used the opportunity to launch its new promotion in support of the Games called “Meal of the Games” Campaign.
