Toa Samoa Residents will be leaving for Hawaii on Tuesday to play against the Tonga Residents on Saturday, 20th of August.

This was confirmed by the president of the Samoa Rugby League, Tagaloa Faafouina Su’a and Head Coach, Matt Parish during a press conference on Friday morning at Hotel Elisa.

“We will be in Hawaii for about four to five days before we play against the Tonga Residents,” said Tagaloa.

This will enable the team to train with an overseas group of six players from New Zealand and Australia.

They will be flying directly in from those countries to Honolulu.

“We will all arrive in Honolulu on the same day.” Our local players were selected from local competitions we had at the beginning of this year,” he said.

“You may be aware that it’s a double header because Fiji will also play against Canada and there will also be an exhibition match between the New South Wales Police against the Hawaii Chiefs.”

Toa Samoa coach Matt Parish is confident the team of local boys are ready “From what I've seen in the two training sessions that I have been to, they are well prepared,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for these young men to showcase their talent and certainly what they are doing now will also help them prepare for the World Cup selection in the future.”
