Everything in a life is a lesson.

And for Mele Saulo of Levi Sale’imoa, she knows that no matter your age and if you’re an unemployed mother, something can be done out of nothing to support your family.

Mele Saulo is a 61-year-old lady who is a dedicated mother to her church’s community work.

She met Village Voice on her way to a women’s workshop at her church’s hall at Levi Sale’imoa.

“I love and enjoy coming to these workshops not only to learn, but it is good to spend my time coming here to absorb new things rather than staying home.

“I am old but to me I feel like I’m in my 20s because of the interest that I have in these workshops that we are doing,” Mele said with a smile.

The workshop she attended was an outreach programme that encourages stay at home mothers to start businesses such as handicrafts and sewing to get money.

“I knew how to sew ages ago but the workshop has taught me that there is more than just sewing at home. Like this saying everything is a lesson and you will get money and be able to provide for the family as well from this.

“The workshop has also motivated us women to be good leaders in our families as well as role models for our daughters in the village.

“I enjoyed everything here and to me it helps me with my health and my daily routine of staying home.”

Mele was also able to share about the cost of living for us in Samoa.

“The cost of living is hard and expensive The Chinese shops started off cheaper but now it’s all going up, and I’m thankful for this workshop that has taught us how to make money from home to cope with this.”
