The cost of travelling to Samoa

Dear Editor,

Re: Struggles of travelling to Samoa

This is a timely letter given that we’ve just had Valentine’s day. This guy’s love for his Samoan wife must be so deep and unfathomable, for him to spend all that money to keep coming to Samoa.

I have only been, on a handful of occasions, to my wife’s family at Savai’i. And the bus and boat fares are only a tiny fraction of what it costs Ian to travel to and from Samoa.

At an average cost of about $1,000 a return fare to Samoa, this Aussie would have spent in excess of $100,000 in air fares alone, not counting the handouts to the wife’s families over here when he visits.

Converted to Samoan tala’s, this guy’s total air fares would have been enough to pay my mortgage with something left over for a Vailima or two.

There should a Valentine prize awarded to a male or female who exhibits the truest Valentine value, unconditional love without regrets. As somebody who completed Common Sense 101, wouldn’t it be cheaper for Ian to marry a Fijian bola or a Balinese princess, and save on some of the air fare costs. But that is only me.
