Fainu’ulelei Matamua Filipo Saena was announced the first ever recipient of the Marist Legend Award at the Vailima Pure Marist International Sevens tournament yesterday.

The presentation took place during the first day of the tourney that wraps up today at the A.C.P. Sport’s Complex in Lotopa.

Yesterday marked another year and achievement of the Marist Sport’s Club hosting an international tournament that has paved the way for local rugby talents.

According to Tournament Director Fata Brian Kaio, as part of the 30th anniversary celebration, the Marist Sport’s Club has also come up with an initiative to honour teams and people who have contributed to the growth of the tournament.

“This is a new initiative by the Marist Sport’s Club prior to the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Marist International Sevens tournament,” he explained.

“Fainu’ulelei has been part of this tournament over the years as a player, as well as a member of the Marist Sport’s Club.

“The award is to honour the people and the teams that have served and contributed to the Marist Sport’s Club International Sevens since the beginning.”

Fainu’ulelei hails from the village of Moata’a and was part of the Moata’a team that won the first two tournaments of the Marist International Sevens.

He is now the coach of the Moata’a Rugby Club, and the Manager of the Samoa A team.
