The Ministry of Police has denied claims that they had turned down applications by three Luatuanu’u men who want to become Police officers.

The denial was issued by Police Superintendent Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo yesterday.

“Those reports are untrue,” he said.

“The Police work provides for equal employment opportunities for anyone, regardless of where you come from.”

Auapa’au declined to elaborate.

The claim was raised by Luatuanu’u Chief, Tofete Lafaua Tofete.

“They made it through the physical fitness and the examinations however recently they have been told they did not make it into the Academy,” Tofete said.

“They are very intelligent young men and they have been robbed of the opportunity to serve in the Government.

“Not only did he call us dogs, he stripped our village of the opportunities in the seasonal work scheme overseas and has also banned our rugby team from taking part in the competition.

“We believe the decision is unfair. It is over the top and we don’t accept it.

“And again this is unfair.”

A Senior Police Officer confirmed the young men passed their P.T. but they did not pass their interviews.

“Also the recruitment process started back in February and yet this Luatuanu’u incident occurred recently.

“So again the timeline of these allegations against the Ministry is unfounded and also the recruitment process is quite extensive.”
