Curtain falls on Methodist conference

The Methodist Church in Samoa has appointed five new members to join their Executive Board Committee.

The appointments made during their annual conference which ends today sees three Members of Parliament join the Committee. 

The new members include the Minister of Finance, Sili Epa Tuioti, Deputy Speaker, Nafo’itoa Talaimanu Keti, Associate Minister Mulipola Laki, C.E.O of M.N.R.E Suluimalo Amataga Penaia and Moala Panoa Tavita.

The total number of the Executive Board Committee members is 36.

“I am very honored to be part of this Committee in the church,” said Suluimalo.

“To me, the most important think is to work together to improve the developments of the church.

“It’s not an easy role but working together and trusting in the Lord will make everything much easier.”

Rev. Lafai Apineru remains the President while Reverend Faulalo Ieti continues as the General Secretary.

“There were lots of issues discussed during this year’s conference,” said Rev. Ieti.

 “Some of the changes in the church include the establishment of one of the Methodist Church in America this year at Anchorage.

“The Apia Synod is now divided into two; Apia Synod East and Apia Synod West and we’re looking into appointing an Elder (Sea) before the end of this year’s conference.

“The church is also looking at ways to improve education in our schools especially in recruiting qualified teachers to some schools in the country.

The conference will end today with a service to bless five ordained ministers of the church. 

They are; Rev Taeano Latu Amani (Sala’ilua Satupa’itea), Rev. Ioane Sefuiva (Alafua and Satupa’itea), Rev Aitu Asiata (Satupaitea and Salelologa), Rev. Taina Pa’a’a (Foailalo and Sala’i) and Rev. Siaki Haini (Faleatiu, Gataivai and Ti’avea).

The service starts at 8:30pm today.
