The Samoa Bodybuilding Federation’s (S.B.F.) preparation for the Mr. Samoa Bodybuilding 2018 competition is underway.

S.B.F. President Romulus Leung Wai said this year’s competition will focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle and contribute to combating non-communicable diseases (N.C.D.) in Samoa.

“It is also our way of giving something to our local talents so they are proud of and be part of the sporting arena,” Romulus said.

“It serves to be another way of showcasing talent rather than the usual rugby, netball and other dominant sports in Samoa. It is a sport for anyone and everyone.

“Last year, we held it at Tanoa Tusitala Hotel but for this year we will host it at Gym 1, Tuanaimato.”

Mr. Samoa 2017, John Lemoa, expressed his excitement for this year’s competition and said he is keen and ready to take the title for the second year in a row.

“It all started when I was young, I used to do workouts at home and then exposed to social media with so many fitness websites and so I wanted to one day be those who were fit and healthy.

“It is not an easy journey, we have to watch what we eat and drink, be consistent in workouts.

“The key is to have a never ending determination in going through so many sacrifices. And so for me, it has been six years since I have gone through such a commitment,” John said.

In Samoa, the late Vui Tapasu Leung Wai started the Samoa Bodybuilding Association in the early 1990s and it grew until the late 2000s when it became inactive again.

The association was revived by the former President Ben Tamanikaiyaroi and incumbent President Romulus Leung Wai.
