No act of kindness is wasted, says Seti

No act of kindness—no matter how small or big—is ever wasted.

That was the undertaking from the family of Seti Taleni from Leulumoega, as they received food and gifts hamper from local company Island Rock.

The hamper is part of the company’s 25 Days of the Spirit of Christmas Campaign and focuses on vulnerable Samoan families, which were featured in the Village Voice column of the Samoa Observer.

But Seti’s family is unique as they were not featured in the newspaper’s Village Voice column but were selected by Island Rock. They were one of three lucky families that received a box of tinned fish, noodles, box of crackers, sacks of rice, sugar along with toys for the children.

“I am overwhelmed with shock really, because I did not expect something like this, but at the end of the day I am truly thankful towards Island Rock for their assistance.

“Not every day you find a good Samaritan with a kind heart that can give your family food supplies to last throughout Christmas.

“Christmas is just around the corner and my family is very blessed to receive these foods, it will lessen our burden of having to provide food and to feed the whole family,” Seti said.

The 49-year-old said Island Rock has made a major impact in their family’s Christmas this year, as his responsibility together with his wife is to not only feed their children, but also look after his elderly mother.

“We have lived together on our family land for two years, but there has been no water or electricity accessibility.

“We were told that there has to be a certain number of families that come together, so that water and electricity can be connected to our homes.

“There are only three people employed in our family and that is myself, my daughter and son (and) we try our best to help our family,” he said.

Island Rock representative, Maiava Iosia, told the family that their campaign is focused on giving back to the community.

“Christmas is about spreading the spirit of giving and love and so we have selected families and organizations that need help.

“There are those that give with joy and are rewarded with joy, well our company’s joy is from the happiness of families we have helped.

“We acknowledge the assistance and work done by Samoa Observer in locating families that need help,” Maiava said.

The campaign will run for 25 days and end on December 24. It features a variety of programmes and activities.
