The 2016 Samoa Independence International Sevens tournament will start on Wednesday 25th May and a number of local businesses and government agencies are already on board powering the most highly anticipated Rugby tournament on island.

Sixteen teams have been confirmed to participate in the tournament, now in its 3rd year, nine of which are from overseas. All teams are hyped and eager to contest for the S.I.I. 7s titles for which they will have the chance to win their own division, be it, Under 14, Under 18, Women’s Competition and the ultimate title “SII7s 2016 Champions”.

The great support in form of sponsorships received over the past weeks has made an immense impact in the tournament’s progress. For this reason, the organising committee are grateful and have acknowledged the businesses and organisations for their generosity and support.

The tournament will start off with the Business Systems Limited and M.O.H. Schools Tournament from Wednesday 25th May to the 26th May, then on to the Ulalei Lodge Women’s Competition on the 27th and 28th as well as the Men’s Open Division on the same dates.

The S.I.I. 7s class of sponsors that have made the tournament possible are the Government of Samoa, Ulalei Lodge, Business Systems Ltd, TV1, Radio 89.1 FM, Bank of South Pacific, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Samoa International Finance Authority (S.I.F.A.), Vaitele Spring Water, Ford Samoa, Samoa Rugby Union and EMD.

Renowned Samoan Sevens legend, Uale Mai, who is the most capped player in Seven’s rugby and IRB International Player of the Year for the 2006-2007 IRB Sevens series, will be the S.I.I. 7s 2016 Tournament Ambassador. Uale Mai follows last year’s ambassador, King of Sevens, Waisale Serevi, who made a huge impact on the tournament given his contribution and his wealth of experience in Sevens Rugby.
