What’s going on at prison? It sure sounds like a death bed

And so once again, the death of another prisoner has come under scrutiny. It surfaced on the front page of the Samoa Observer yesterday under the headline “Wife calls for investigation into husband’s death.” At a quick glance, it has become almost normal to say ‘another one at the prison.’ Except it is not normal.

Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor, If all things I read on the news are true then we are witnessing a modern-day ‘slave-trade’ at the expense of our very own Pacific players. As nasty as this comparison is, I believe, this is the most fitting way to describe the current set-up of the World Ruby Union.

Dear Editor, Re: Invasive species could be turned into renewable energy According to your article on a new project using local wood to generate electrical power, a short list of trees has been published as being invasive species.

Dear Editor, I am writing in response to the somewhat circus I have consequently created through the voicing of concern. I am saddened with how such a serious issue has turned into a media frenzy, creating a divide between athletes and officials.

“My soul is a flat tyre!”

“ My soul is a flat tyre,” writes one of my idealised writers. I giggle at the consequence of arriving at a shattered experience after such a long life. He died of old age. But I must remind myself sometimes of the inability of a human being we idolize to be perfect.

I am so sorry

Dear Samoan people, Peace Corps and anyone else who dislikes me and President Donald Trump. As you know, I have been investigated by the US States Department following my visit to your country last July to celebrate 50 years of Peace Corp work in Samoa. Pearce Corp was founded by President John Fitzgerald Kennedy 100 years ago.

SLOW DOWN PLEASE Those midnight rally drivers might want to be careful out there.

YOU’RE THE BEST! Admiration and thanks to the school pupils, supervised by teachers, for manning the pedestrian crossings near schools and keeping their many fellow students and drivers safe on our roads.

DEPENDS WHICH SIDE YOU’RE ON Does that adage "one swallow make a summer" apply to football? If you’re an Aussie rugby fan and have been waiting for a win for yonks, it’s a resounding yes.

Think a Minute

Think a minute…I know a woman who gets sad when her husband sends her roses! She says: “The only reason my husband gives me flowers is because it’s Valentine’s Day and he thinks he’s expected to.

Head of State or Governor General?

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi’s government has moved to amend the Constitution once more in relation to the position of the Head of State. But the change has given rise to suggestions that since anyone is now eligible to become the Head of State, is it not time to consider changing the title from Head of State to Governor General. What do you think? Ioana Tupa’i asked in today’s Street Talk and this is what people said:
