Students from more than ten schools around Upolu took part in the University of the South Pacific (U.S.P.) Open day at Alafua Campus last Friday.

The open day allowed Year 12 and 13 students the chance to learn and find out for themselves the career path they wish to take with the choice of subjects they will take should they attend the regional university.

A Year 13 student from Faleata College, Meilape Tavita said she is thankful to be part of the open day.

“It is a great advantage for me to attend U.S.P. open day because I am a science student and it is evident in my observation that there are so many things that I have learned from the tours. We know processes of planting and ways of taking care of animals.

“But not only that, there are other fields of studies that are being taught here.

“I am thankful to the university because it has helped me by giving examples to guide me in the choices that I make in the future,” she said.

Tour guide, U.S.P. student Tony Tonafala said: “We lead the students and show them what is actually happening at U.S.P. in terms of the practical and also learn their options in what they want in the future.

“Additionally it is all about promotion of different courses taken and for students to have a brief preview on what to expect and especially what is being provided in these courses offered at our university,” he said.

There were 10 different stations which the students had the chance to visit.

First on the list was the livestock display, library, Information Technology section, School of Agriculture and Food Technology (S.A.F.T.) Agriculture-Business, Student Administrative Services (S.A.S.) - Distance Flexible Learning - Pacific Technical and Further Education (Pac T.A.F.E.), S.L.S.H. display, soils display, Ag Engineering, GTZ building and Central Display.
