More than 500 income earners under a project designed to empower women from Savaii, Upolu and Manono-tai are on their way to a brighter future when the Nofotane project ends next month.

Run by the Samoa Victim Support Group (S.V.S.G.), President Siliniu Lina Chang outlined plans to secure a sustainable future for participants from the 166 villages involved.

“We have applied to the Civil Society Support Program (C.S.S.P.) for funding to assist with the sustainability of more than 500 earners from the Nofotane project. At the moment, we are currently awaiting the result of the application,” Siliniu said.

“Even though we submitted proposals, we are not sitting around.”

“We are keen in searching for funds but also locating markets for the women’s products locally and internationally. S.V.S.G. is applying to other development partners for funding to support, assist with sustainability of the nofotane products such as, online market opportunities, product development, and market affiliations.”

Siliniu said throughout the course of the project, they witnessed positive changes among the participants and the involvement of youths and family members.

“I am happy even though we were condemned and ridiculed throughout our project, but as long as I see a smile on the faces of those who have benefited from this programme, that to me is a reason to continue,” she added.

A market day will be held on July 19 to mark the end of the project.  S.V.S.G. invites its family of supporters to come down and support by purchasing their nofotane brand.
