Unseasonal rain due to convective clouds

Keep your wet weather gear handy for the next few days at least, according to information from Samoa’s Meteorology Division.

The unseasonal rain at this time of the year is due to overcast convective clouds currently affecting the islands.

This was the reason given by the Meteorology Office from their latest satellite images taken on Wednesday morning.

“It is due to an active trough of low pressure drifting eastward over Samoa from the Southwest, with associated fresh to strong East to Northeast wind-flow,” a report read.

“Observations at Apia show sustained winds of 20kts, with N.E. gusts of 28kts recorded on Wednesday morning.

“Thus it warrants the issuance of heavy rain warning and a wind advisory to reflect these conditions.”

Scattered showers are anticipated with brief heavy falls and a chance of thunderstorms.

For today and tomorrow, the Meteorology Division declared that another high pressure system from further southwest will enter our forecast zone by Friday and trade-wind weather will again resume in the latter part of the outlook for the weekend.

“The latest wave watch models show seas remaining above the advisory threshold and observations from Aunuu wave buoy, shows sea heights at 8 to 10 feet.

Therefore the warning to small craft will reflect these conditions.
