A single stick is weak but if it’s bunched up with many other sticks, it becomes stronger.

This simple but old saying defines the village of Mulifanua who are working hard towards the goal of a united village.

According to Tamailelagi Na’otala from the village of Mulifanua, the village is setting up a parade for the village people to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Latter Day Saints Church.

“Churches aren’t only concerned about the village people’s well being we have other goals at hand,” he told the Village Voice.

“The village people themselves here at Mulifanua work together and help one another.”

“The church and the village people all want the same thing; a good and happy life.”

“Another thing is that it’s not just the church who is concerned about each individuals attitude. If we want our people to change and live a better life then we have to address the problems together.”

“We need everyone to unite as one.”

Tamailelagi continued to stress the importance of unity in Mulifanua.

“Right now I don’t want to say anything else aside from the importance of cooperation,” he said.

“If we are to stick together in unity then we will be able to deal with so many different issues that we face.”

A lot of preparation work has gone into the parade but as they work together, the workload isn’t too heavy.

“We are preparing for something special in our village which will signify unity,” Tamailelagi said.

“A lot of preparations has gone into it right now in reaching our  45 years since the church of the Latter Day Saint was first established here at Mulifanua to Manono.

“There will be a parade in the morning next Wednesday to be followed by entertainments, and it’s all part of thanksgiving to God for leading us this far.”

“We are nothing without God and he has helped us so much with everything. He is the source of all help, all strength and love. We wouldn’t be able to do anything without him.”

At the end of the day, the goal remains the same for everyone in the village.

“Our hope is to bring together all the people from any denominations of different villages to work together in one spirit. That is all we want,” Tamailelagi said.

“We are grateful for the help of the village council in making this event possible for everyone in the village to enjoy.”
