Water matters to all

Nobody really expects to live in a world where there’s no water but Talamatavao Motu from Moamoa Faleasiu is one of those people who does.

The 66 year old and his family face an everyday struggle to get water from their neighbour.

“That is why we need help with this matter,” he says to the Village Voice.

“The governments’ water does access our area but the pipelines are so far from here that it does involve a lot of money for the connection and installation of our own tap water.

“Life nowadays is all about money so with this; money talks and money is something that we lack.

“My family and I have a plantation of crops to sell to earn a living. Sometimes we sell koko and bananas. For me; whenever we earn money; my schoolkids are my first priority. So we don’t really earn much and yet we have this to contribute to which is a must because I don’t want my kids to be uneducated.

“My other older kids are still looking for jobs but so far none have been blessed with jobs yet.

“So you see why; there’s no really point in trying to save when there are more important things to pay.

“And we can’t afford to pay an amount of $270 tala for both the connection and installation of a tap.

“It may be only a few cents for some people but not for us who only have limited access to funds.

“I mean we don’t even have a water tank so we just use buckets and bottles for water storage.

“Nothing wrong with staying far from the inner land except for the fact that it’s hard to find water.

“It is something that I humbly request help for because water matters to all. We will appreciate any help given.”
