Safety first, for National Schools Rugby Championships
The bad weather yesterday led to the postponement of the remaining Samoa National Schools Championships.
The competition was held at the St Joseph’s College ground after being moved from the Apia Park Stadium on Monday.
The decision was confirmed by Samoa Rugby Union (S.R.U.) Development Manager, Anae Tui Komiti.
According to a press release from the Samoa Rugby Union (S.R.U.), the decision was made for safety reasons.
“Bad weather has forced the remaining games of the Samoa National Schools Championships to be postponed until tomorrow (today).”
“Players welfare is top priority in this kind of conditions and the committee has decided to postpone the games for the safety of the players,” said Anae.
“The postponement came after a result of heavy rain that created a huge pool of water on various parts of the field which posed potential harm to the players if submerged in these parts of the fields under a ruck or maul.”
“This is something that we take very seriously. There is no use to carry on with the games when we see it unfit. A player could suffocate if submerged in parts of the field where water level is high and that is what we do not want to see.”
“The venue has now been shifted to Pesega College for the remaining games and we are hoping for a good weather tomorrow (today),” Anae added.
