Samoa, a special place for Danielson

Great place, friendly people and beautiful tropical weather.

Those qualities guarantee that Daniel Danielson of Hawaii will return to Samoa.

Not that he is a stranger. In the country for a wedding, this is Danielson’s fourth trip to Samoa. During his second trip, he tied the knot with his wife, Andrea, on 5 January 2000.

“So when we were invited to a wedding in Samoa, my wife was unable to come but she did not want to pass up the opportunity for one of us to visit Samoa.”

“Samoa holds a special place in our hearts; this is where it all started.”

“We wanted to get married in American Samoa but due to numerous red tapes, we decided to come here.”

“And Samoa did not disappoint, we got married the same day we arrived here.”

“It was not a big wedding, but the fact remains is that we got married in Samoa.”

“Not many people can say they tied the knot in a Pacific Island.... let alone Samoa, a very popular place in Hawaii.”

“Some people can only dream to come here, but my wife and I can proudly say, this is where we said our vows.”

This time around, Danielson will take a special gift back with him.

“I just uplifted a copy of our marriage certificate to surprise my wife and it will be a priceless gift for her.”

Danielson noted the numerous changes in Samoa over the years.

“The huge buildings, the people continue to be friendly, the good Samoan food... I wish I had four stomachs, I can just eat and eat, but sadly I don’t,” he chuckled.

The Samoa Observer met up with Danielson at Amani Restaurant and was in love with their food.

“American Samoa offers almost the food, but they don’t make it as good as Samoa does.”

“Plus, there’s more Chinese restaurants than Samoan food restaurants in Pago, so it’s not all good compared to the food here.”

A father of six. Danielson said he’s received numerous requests from his kids about what they want from Samoa.

“So I have been to the flea market getting Samoan stuff for my family and hopefully persuade them to bring their kids to Samoa.”

Danielson was very impressed with hard working farmers in Samoa.

“I see them selling goods at the market, stalls near the minor and in front of big stores. I’m glad they don’t go begging for help, they farm and sell the produce to get money to take care of families... I really admire that.”

Returning home tomorrow, Danielson is already dreading it.

“We have been to sight seeing and I have to say that Samoa is just like Tahiti, but prettier, so green and just exotic. I love coming to Samoa, and hopefully we will visit Samoa again.”
