A 47-year-old male has pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, commonly known as ice. He has also pleaded guilty to possession of unlawful ammunition.

Paulo Afamasaga entered the guilty plea through his lawyer, Lefau Harry Schuster, before the Chief Justice, His Honour Patu Tiava’asu’e Falefatu Sapolu.

Afamasaga faced one charge of possession of unlawful ammunition, one charge of possession of narcotics and one charge of possession of dry loose marijuana leaves.

The Samoa Observer understands the charges Afamasaga has pleaded guilty to were from 2012 when he was charged with his wife.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges at the time. When he was supposed to appear in Court, Afamasaga skipped the country.

On April 2013, the matter was called again in the Supreme Court for the prosecution at the time to confirm whether it’s true the couple had left the country.

The Court was told the defendant and his wife had left.

Earlier this year, however, the Ministry of Police was informed that the accused had returned.

The Police arrested Afamsaga on 28 August 2018 and remanded him in custody.

On Monday during the criminal mention hearing he pleaded guilty to all the charges.

The matter has been set for sentencing on 5 November 2018 before Supreme Court Justice Mata Keli Tuatagaloa.
