Rupi Taituuga is among the local designers getting behind Miss Samoa, Sonia Piva, as she begins her mission to bring the Miss Pacific crown to Samoa. Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Rupi said he is delighted to have been able to help Ms. Piva, who is leaving for Tonga this week.

“Ever since I started doing this, my heart has always been with the girls and these pageants give me a sense of inspiration to give my support,” he said.

“It was also never doing it for myself but it was also part of my contribution to our country.

Rupi is donating 12 outfits for Ms. PIva. “It’s not about the number of outfits,” he said. “I wanted to make sure that our Sonia had enough to wear because I am positive there will be so many various functions she will attend.”

Rupi added that he would always support the Miss Samoa pageant.

Another designer who is helping is Salafai Ah Tong, from the House of Gold.

“As you are all well, we sponsored former Miss Samoa, Alexandra Iakopo and we hoped to continue our support for the Miss Samoa.

“It is also important that we showcase our culture through what our Miss Samoa will wear at an overseas country so that people will automatically pick out our girl as a Samoan lady.

“At the end of the day I want to support the potential and talents within our young girls so that they can contribute better not only for our country’s economy but also our communities.”

The reigning Miss Samoa, Sonia Piva, said that she feels truly blessed by so much support not only from these designers but also from the whole country.

“I would never have been able to do this on my own which is why I am truly thankful to everyone that has supported me during my reign.

“I will do my very best and hope to bring home the crown for our people but it will not be easy so please don’t forget me in your prayers because we have need God in everything that we do.”
