It’s official. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has a new Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O.).

He is Ulu Bismarck Crawley, who takes over from Sulu’imalo Amataga Penaia.

The appointment was endorsed by Cabinet last week.

Contacted for a comment yesterday, Ulu said he is humbled by the selection Panel and Cabinet’s faith in his ability to lead the Ministry.

“I am very humbled and honoured to be chosen as Chief Executive Officer of the M.N.R.E. for the next three years,” Ulu told the Samoa Observer.

“Whatever plans that the government directs me to work on in the next three years, I will give it my best.

“Yes, there will be challenges along the way, but they make us stronger everyday and prepare us for the future.”

Ulu said he is excited to be serving the people of Samoa.

Ulu has four children with wife Fuatino Sesega.

He holds a Masters in Environmental law with postgraduate studies in the areas of Climate Change, Meteorology, Oceanography, Geographical Information System (G.I.S.) and Remote Sensing.

He has worked at the Apia Observatory (currently Meteorology), S.P.R.E.P. and has carried out consultancy roles with the U.N.D.P., F.A.O., World Bank, AusAid and some with Multilateral Environmental Agreements (M.E.A.).

He comes to the role with 25 years of experience having dealt with national, regional and international projects with M.N.R.E., M.O.H., N.H.S., M.A.F. and Parliament.

The projects were to enhance synergies with other sectors in streamlining climate change resilience and consolidating the sustainable management of natural and environmental resources for the benefits and quality of life for all, Samoans.

Ulu was the former Technical Advisor of the Adaptation Fund Project and P.P.C.R. at P.U.M.A. Ulu is a matai from Puipa’a who contested last year’s General Election. He is 51.
