Captain of the world conquering New Zealand Women’s Black Ferns rugby team, Fiao’o Fa’amausili, has left her mark at Marist Lotopa.

On Friday, she donated her rugby boots to the Marist Sports Club.

She also presented a signed rugby warm up jersey and a photograph of her holding the 2017 World Cup trophy. The items were presented to the President of the Marist Sports Club, Faimalo Mathew Lemisio.

“Samoa has a strong foundation in rugby. Everyone concentrates on money and funding as a key development for the game but all you need is a ball and skills to be able to play,” Fa’amausili said.

“So with my donation, if it goes to an auction and the proceeds go to start up the 15’s women team or for development in the women’s quick rip sport, I’m honored to have had the opportunity to help and inspire others in this sport,” Fa’amausili said.

She said she feels strongly connected to Samoa and she is offering her services to improve rugby in her birth country.

President Faimalo said they are extremely grateful.

“We are honored to have Fiao’o Fa’amausili gift us these precious items, especially to be in the presence of someone of her caliber to motivate the young generation.”

“Seeing Samoa Rugby Union’s long term vision in the development of women in sports, we looked at how we could assist with that and having you and your 7’s teams earlier this year, that was really inspirational for our women in sports, this year,” Lemisio said.

He added Marist is trying to encourage more young people to participate in sports and they are well aware that when we talk about Marist, it only refers to rugby, but now they have expanded into various sports like touch rugby, soccer and boxing.

Fa’amausili last wore the rugby boots during the Marist 7’s in Samoa earlier this year.
