The Police are investigating a family dispute, which is connected to the death of a man from Lotofaga, Safata, on Sunday.

Responding to questions from the Samoa Observer, the Police Media Unit said a man has been charged with murder, but is yet to be remanded in custody.

“Samoa Police Service (SPS) in response to your enquiry, confirms investigation into a dispute between family members on Saturday night at Lotofaga Safata.

“The deceased was admitted to Motootua Hospital where he passed away on Sunday, 17 February 2019. A 25-year-old male of Lotofaga Safata has been charged with murder. He is yet to be remanded by the Court Registrar.”

The family of the deceased refused to comment when approached by this newspaper early this week, saying it was a “family problem” and does not concern the public.

Three members of the public, who were at the hospital when the deceased was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit, said he sustained three deep cuts to the head.

Contrary to a report that a machete was used, a family member yesterday said a shovel with a blunt end was used in the alleged attack.
