The Business Systems Back to School kids mixed netball tournament last Saturday exposed some very enthusiastic up and coming netballers.

An annual tournament organized by SCOPA Netball in partnership with Business Systems attracted over 20 teams in both Year 5/6 and 7/8 grades, from schools around the country including Sunday schools and family teams.

The tournament kicked off with a ten minutes warm-up by the energetic kids from Nobesity, a short prayer and then teams got straight into business.

The first two rounds saw early nerves from all teams, and by their third games, no one was listening to their teachers and parents and were all serious running around finding the ball and getting free from their opponents and yelling at their shooters to sink the goals.

Joyce Ah-Leong whose son played for SPS yr 5/6 team said “He came home and kept talking about his games for the rest of Saturday and all of Sunday.

He was dark from the sun, he was so happy; he said to his dad oka oka we had many wins, and one loss.

I’m very glad he and his school friends had a good day, and he was out of the house so we could do some chores”.

The finals for yr 5/6 were between Peace Chapel and Samoa Primary, who eventually won after a double overtime.

The boys in both teams did not give way to their female opponents and played just as hard.

In the finals for 7/8, all eyes were on the fast midcourt from Samoa Primary, and very accurate shooter from RLS.

The match went the way of Samoa Primary whose experience from the school tournament gave them the added push in the end.

The winners and runners up of both grades took home prize money, the winning trophy and individual prizes for all players.

SCOPA Netball and Business Systems Ltd thanked all the parents, principals and families for their support, and being involved with getting kids to stay active and developing their netball skills.

There were spot prizes, face paint, music, bbq and prizes for all participating kids.

SCOPA Netball thanks Business Systems for their ongoing commitment to supporting community initiatives such as this.  SCOPA also thanks Ah Liki Investment, Tihati Devoe, and its many supporters who helped ensure the day was a success.
