Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, has paid tribute to the services of His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi as the Head of State for the past 10 years.

Tuilaepa heaped praises on His Highness’s dedication and commitment to the development of Samoa during a farewell dinner hosted by Cabinet at Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey's Hotel on Wednesday night.

The tribute comes as the nation prepares to welcome the new Head of State, His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II today.

His Highness Tuimaleali’ifano and his Masiofo, Her Highness Fa’amausili Leinafo will take their oath at 3pm at the Parliament complex at Tuana’imato.

On Thursday night, Tuilaepa acknowledged His Highness Tui Atua’s work as well as his Masiofo, Her Highness Filifilia Tamasese.

He reiterated that His Highness’ appointment during the past ten years was the result of the secret whisper by the Holy Spirit to members of Parliament. As for his calling, this was God’s decision alone.

Tuilaepa paid tribute to Tui Atua not just as the Head of State but also a proud Samoan who has served as a Prime Minister, Cabinet Minister, Member of Parliament among many public roles he has held.

He described his exit by using a Samoan term, malologa manumalo (victorious retirement) which is commonly reserved for church Ministers.

“If God had called you to serve in all these high profile positions and yet you have remained physically strong, it means that perhaps there are other plans God will call you for,” he said.

“As for us who are sitting here, it is not long until we too will start preparing for our victorious retirement.”

The following is what the Prime Minister said in Samoan:
