The identity of a man found dead at Moamoa on Tuesday remains a mystery.

Police Media spokesperson, Su’a Le Mamea Tiumalu, confirmed the death yesterday, saying the Police have launched a full investigation to find out who the man is and how he died.

The gruesome discovery at Moamoa has alarmed the Police.

“The death was reported to the Police station on Tuesday,” said Su’a.

“It was reported by the people of Moamoa who found the deceased outside of the gate of Ming Leung Wai’s house.”

Su’a said when the Police arrived; the man’s face was not recognisable.

“The police rushed to the scene and found that the body was starting to smell,” he said.

“They took him to the hospital and they suspect that he might be a male from the village of Faleula. We believe that he stayed at the Divine Mercy Shelter for the homeless at Moamoa.”

Su’a said the death has shocked residents in the area.

While suicide is suspected, the Police are not ruling out foul play.

“So today (yesterday) the people from the Divine Mercy and the police will go back to the mortuary to confirm the identity of the deceased and inform his family about it,” he said.

“That’s all I can say at this stage as the investigation is continuing.”

This incident is one of four deaths reported to the Police.

In another incident, a drinking session gone wrong claimed the life of a 28-year-old male from Aele who was knifed to death.

The machete incident at Aele occured when the two men who had a drink up ended up arguing.

“The incident involved two males from A’ele. The other one is 41-years-old and the other one is 28-years-old.

“They had a drink up and that ended in a fight. The 41-year-old used a machete to attack the 28-year-old and both of them were rushed to hospital on Sunday.

“Unfortunately, they informed us on Tuesday that the 28-year-old had passed away because of major injuries on his face.

“The 41-year-old is now under Police custody and he will appear in court on the 31st of this month for murder.”

The third death involved a 15-year-old from the villages of Papauta and Faleapuna who was found dead by his family on Saturday afternoon. Suicide is suspected.

The fourth death is a 26-year-old man from Sinamoga, who died when his car crashed at Ululoloa last Saturday morning. Alcohol was a factor.
