Two new ambulances and a van were awarded to the Fire and Emergency Services Authority (F.E.S.A) yesterday thanks to a generous donor.

The Accident Compensation Corporation (A.C.C) donated the vehicles, spending approximately T$540,000 to ensure more lives can be saved at the scene of an emergency.

In a ceremony at the F.E.S.A headquarters in Apia, Commissioner Lelevaga Faafouina Mupo said he was grateful to A.C.C for providing the vehicles.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr Sa’ilele Malielegaoi gave the keynote address at the ceremony, and A.C.C Minister Lautafi Selafi Purcell ceremonially cut a ribbon, followed by a tour of the vehicles for the government and diplomatic guests.

F.E.S.A paramedics and firefighters demonstrated the use of sliding stretchers, and the various things ambulances are kitted it with.

“These will be more comfortable, and helpful for F.E.S.A to carry out their duties, especially medical operations throughout the country,” Lelevaga said. 

“We cooperate with the National Health Services, as F.E.S.A is for the public.”

He said his staff is well prepared and trained to handle victims of accidents or problems, and the vehicles will make the work better.

“We have a really special appreciation for the minister, chairman, the board and management of the A.C.C for this great assistance, by providing these vehicles,” said Lelevaga.

A.C.C chief executive officer Muliagatele Masoe Makerita Matafeo said the process has taken nearly a year to complete, and Minister Lautafi said providing this necessity to the service was invaluable. 

“F.E.S.A identified this need they have. 

“They haven’t got any of these, so the A.C.C opted to fund them.”
