The destination for a honeymoon

Recently wedded Australian couple Hugh and Airlie Landale do not regret choosing Samoa as their honeymoon destination.

Hailing from southern New South Wales and farmers by background, Hugh and Airlie embraced the Samoan weather the moment they stepped out of the aircraft.

“We got married a couple of months ago and because we’re farmers we couldn’t go away straight away, and then we decided to come to Samoa,” said 30-year-old Airlie.

They said they also love the people with everyone being nice and were full of praise for their current host, the Le Vasa Resort at Apolima Uta, which they described as “amazing”.

“We love it, we’ve only been here two days and we’ve had a big day today with To Sua Trench and swimming with the giant clams,” added Airlie.

“We can’t believe how everyone’s houses [are] so beautiful; everyone takes such good care, like the whole island is so pretty.”

Hugh told Samoa Observer that they were looking for somewhere that they have not been to before, and coincidently his uncle recommended Samoa.

“We really wanted to come to Samoa because when we were looking for a place together, this place popped up,” said 29-year-old Hugh.

Then Airlie mentioned her husband’s uncle recommended Samoa to them, as he also visited the island about 25 years ago.

“It’s nice and close to Australia and we flew directly from Brisbane which was super easy,” she added.

When asked what their favourite activity is while in Samoa, Hugh said “snorkeling with the giant clams”, while Airlie went for the To Sua Trench — despite being scared climbing down its famous ladder.

“It’s a beautiful time of year to be here, it’s quite quiet, everywhere we go it’s a beautiful place — and the food has been amazing

“We’re just having a bit of fun, a bit of downtime and we’ll be going fishing tomorrow past the reef,” Airlie said excitedly.

Although they describe most parts of Samoa they’ve seen as “pretty”, rubbish on the sides of the roads caught their eyes.

“We went for a walk the other day and it’s such a beautiful country, but then there’s a bit of littering on the side of the roads,” Airlie added.

The couple is in the country for six nights and fly out of Samoa on Christmas day.
