Manu Samoa Sevens Head Coach, Sir Gordon Tietjens, has named his final squad for the Las Vegas and Vancouver legs of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
The announcement was made during the official launching of the sponsorship and supply agreement of the BLK Sports Ltd and Samoa Rugby Union deal today at Tanoa Tusitala.
The squad will have Silao Nonu, Tofatu Solia, Gordon Langkilde, David Afamasaga and Jacob Ale working together in the forwards.
Murphy Paulo, Alatasi Tupou and Tila Mealoi will be working in the halves controlling their set plays while Tomasi Alosio, La’aloi Leilua and Neria Foma’i in the midfield.
Joe Perez, Tom Iosefo and Elisapeta Alofipo will be on the wings.
Sir Gordon said the team is aware about the task at hand.
“I don’t think a lot of people out there realize how difficult and tougher it is now on the current World Series,” he said. “The points of difference now can be one missed tackle or one bad call and that actually cost you and it’s ruthless.
“You saw the game against Fiji in Hamilton which we were in so close, but I felt we got the better result in the end or two convincing games against England and Kenya to finish fifth in our best placing for the current year in the World Series.
Sir Gordon Tietjens said selecting his final squads have been tough.
“I’ve got lot of players now pushing each other which is good for Samoan rugby,” he said.
“We had a very good tournament on the last tournament in Hamilton; we are surely looking to improve going on to Las Vegas and Vancouver.”
Samoa is in Pool C for the Las Vegas tournament against Australia, Spain and hosts U.S.A. which kicks off next weekend.
