The greatest contentment is seeing your family find success.

That is the feeling that came to Maletina Asia of Faleula-uta and Asau Savaii when her brother Akuino Folau found himself a job at Samoa Water Authority up inAfiamalu.

Akuino Folau was featured in the Village Voice programme on 18 May 2017 when he was looking for a job. 

Akuino Folau of Faleula-uta did not hide his desperation for a job.

Speaking to the Village Voice, Akuino said there are too many bills to be paid but it takes a long time for his family to come up with the money considering that there’s no one who works.

The 37-year-old stays with his two brothers who are both chiefs.

“Having one chief is hard because you have obligations to the village and not forgetting the ones to the church.

“Now imagine having two chiefs and having the plantation to depend on for everything that we need; food and finance, that’s a lot on our shoulders.

“Plantation is the only answer we have when it comes to obligations or things that requires payment of money and that is why I need a job.

He went on to say that “I used to work as a landscape gardener here in our village but then I left to go overseas so that’s the end of that.

“So now I’m job searching again and I hope to find a job one day that matches my skills of; mowing the lawn, gardening and farming.

“I just need a job that suits my abilities so I can help myself and my brothers.”

Now he doesn’t need to worry about looking for money to pay the bills because he has a job at Samoa Water Authority to depend on. 

According to Maletina, he got the call right after the day he was interviewed and then he started working the following week.

“First of all, I would like to say thank you on behalf of my brother Akuino, to the S.W.A. and to the Village Voice”.

“I would like to thank the S.W.A. for taking notice on Akuino’s plea for a job, it is with that, that we are able to have someone to work for our family and help out with so many things. 

“Thank you to the Village Voice through your writing, I always hear my brother telling people that he got a job because of your Village Voice Programme.

“You know on the same week, when he was being interviewed, he came and asked me for money to get his documents and identification card ready.

“Akuino was a farmer and he was really good at that. 

“But now my brother works at S.W.A. at it’s branch up at Afiamalu.

“This is truly a blessing because now my brother can create a better future for himself.”

“ I remember the first time I asked him if he’s got a job and he said yes; I said to him ‘this is your future and by God willing you know, maybe one day you will have a wife and children and you have a job to depend on.

“He deserves it because he’s hardworking, he’s honest and he’s always providing for us especially his sisters.”
