Wonderful vision

Dear Editor,

Reading the article in regards to the silver jubilee of the Samoa Housing Corporation (published 20 December, 2015) was inspiring. From rather obscure and modest beginnings the S.H.C has forged a niche as one of the more active and proactive corporations of the Samoan Government.

The international and local awards presented to the S.H.C and its leader, Ms. Levi, is due acknowledgment and recognition of her inspired leadership and relentless drive for the pursuit of excellence.

I also pay tribute to Matau’s predecessor, namely Fa’amausili Leaupepetele Folomalo Vaito’a Toelupe, who piloted the S.H.C through its formative years. I believe that it was this sure foundation coupled with a staff committed to work place eminence which has seen S.H.C evolve into a model of consistency and quality.

However, my thanks goes first and foremost to Ms. Matautia Rula Levi, who stands at the forefront of the S.H.C mission and has done so since 2004.

The Bible states that “where there is no vision the people perish”, in Proverbs 29:18.

It is my belief that great leaders have empathy, resilience and vision. These three qualities encapsulated Matautia’s mantra and approach to work. The empathy, vision and resilience is needed, especially in such a fickle place like Samoa.

I wish Samoa Housing Corporation all the best for the next 25 years. No doubt the bar has been set high, with the work of both Matau and Fa’amausili, but the Lord will also provide.

A famous quote in regards to leadership is “leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality”.

“Vision is the art of seeing the invisible.”

Thank you Matau for seeing three moves ahead to have the insight and nous to see what is required and demanded for the best results for S.H.C.

Your foresight and fortitude has seen our people reap many benefits. Enjoy the jubilee celebrations and allow yourself (just once) to revel and bathe in the limelight.

The Psalmist wrote (Psalm 121) “I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from whence shall my help come? Our greatest help is from the one who has shown us the greatest love.”

Ia manuia tele le Faalapotopotoga o Fale o Samoa.
