Malua is the overall winner in the Youth Building Peace competition facilitated by the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa (CCCS).

The competition was divided into six categories and included traditional singing, hip hop dance, choir, traditional and religious skid and foreign dance.

Malua was the overall winner of three categories: traditional singing, Samoan skid and foreign dancing. Apia won two categories in choir and religious skid, while Faasaleleaga came first in hip hop dance.

Building peace and creating friendships between the youth was the objective of the program facilitated by the church, and it was attended by different churches of the CCCS.

Interviews by Samoa Observer with some of the youth conference participants indicated that they believe the program had its benefits.

Abraham Junior Tufuga of Fa’asa’aleleaga and Semisi Vaki from Apia spoke on the common changes that they had experienced throughout the program.

“I believed the program has brought us together like a family now. Our dance crew members are from five different churches and these people, we never knew them before. This program has built a great bond between us youth from different churches and different villages.

“This crew is formed up by different people of different backgrounds and I believed that with this program we had the chance to get along with each other. The issue of brawling between the youth in town and elsewhere, this can be one of the solutions. Get the people from each places to work together as one community by then, each and every one could get along with the others,” he added.

Kotimani Ta’avao of Apia Sasae said he was of the view that the program had its advantageous.

“This particular program suits us perfectly, not only it brings us together but also brings out the talent that is within us. It also encourages us to use the talented that the Lord blessed us with.”
