Seventeen members of the Aoto’a family in Gataivai Savaii have been bestowed the Tiatia chiefly title.

Four of the chief title holders live overseas while others reside in Samoa.

The ceremony and blessing was done by the Methodist Minister, Rev. Tuivanu followed by the traditional ava ceremony.

Present was Member of Parliament Faumuina Faaolatane Liuga.

All the 17 title holders are heirs of Tiatia Sakalia I.

One of the Tiatia title holders, Tiatia Savea Tiatia, said he was honoured to be bestowed with the title.

His father Paila Ioane Tiatia is the son of Tiatia Laumatai, who is the son of Tiatia Sakalia l.

“It is an absolute honor and privilege to have my family chiefly title,” he said.

“The responsibility and heart that comes to serving the village and family is not one to take so lightly, but I know is a tremendous blessing.”

As a third generation to the chief title Tiatia, he and the rest of the newly chiefs said they are grateful for the opportunity and are committed to serving their family.
