Kiwi duo to return for Samoa

Work and a bit of pleasure.

That’s what brought Ian Magee and Raoul Borley of Auckland, New Zealand to Samoa.

They were enjoying Samoa’s perfect sunshine at the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel yesterday when they caught up with the Dear Tourist.

“We brought over a few machines and I came over to help assemble it,” Ian told the Dear Tourist team.

It’s Ian’s second time to the islands, with the first also for business reasons. He arrived on Tuesday and will leave on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s really hot here, but nevertheless people are really friendly and nice and it’s unfortunate that I haven’t done any sightseeing or tasted any local food because it’s mostly been work,” Ian said.

Across from the table, we couldn’t resist but notice Raoul sipping on a chilled coconut and it turns out that as a first timer, coconuts have been the real thirst quencher in a tropic island for the Kiwi lad.

“Yes I love coconuts,” Raoul smiled when we asked him.

He added: “I leave on Friday night (tonight) but I’ve got a friend here who always wants us to come here for a holiday, so we’ll probably come back here for Christmas and stay for a while.”

They agreed that while the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel is a really good accommodation with its staff being friendly, Samoa should consider having a world-renowned hotel for travelers’ purposes.

“This hotel’s been really nice, but probably Samoa needs more hotels and resorts,” Raoul said.

Ian explained: “I think it would be a great idea if you have a hotel from one of the well-known international chains of hotels because travelers would feel more comfortable when coming over and staying here because some people are not adventurous you know.”

It turns out that they’ve been to quite a number of Pacific Islands and while for Raoul it’s usually for leisure and work, for Ian it’s always for work reasons.

“I’ve been to Rarotonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, and some other islands, and some for work and some not. They are kind of similar with natural beauty,” Raoul said.

“I’ve been to some Pacific Islands, but all for work,” Ian said, adding the standards of hotels in Samoa are better than Vanuatu and Tonga because it’s more relaxing.
