It’s Seth Coates-Chitty’s first time to Samoa. 

And so far, Samoa’s scenery has captivated him. 

The lad from Auckland, New Zealand is in Samoa with his girlfriend and her family. 

There are 30 of them altogether on this trip. 

“I have been to Fiji and I heard about Samoa, Vanuatu and the other islands. I haven’t decided before to come here, but I am happy to be here, it is really nice,” he said.

“The road from the airport to the resort honestly has been the best part so far.”

“The driving around, seeing the heaps of churches and the families on a Sunday, everyone dressed up has been really cool. That is why I want to go out more to explore.” 

They plan to rent some scooters and travel around the island. 

“I rented scooters in Bali, where the traffic is much crazier then here. I think the fact that there are not a lot of people on the island here, the traffic is going to be totally fine.”

“I haven’t seen so much so far, but I am sure there is a lot of interesting stuff to do. We are going to explore in the next days,” Seth said. 

“For me, it is definitely both, the culture and to relax are the reasons I am here. I make videos and these guys are doing a lot of photographs, so we are going to explore and see some villages and the culture.”

“It is a significant part of the experience to go out and not just stay in the pool. You can stay at home and do that.”

One part of the culture is the food.

“I tried the raw fish, which was nice. I want to try more of the local food for sure,” he said.

Seth hopes to surf on the southern part of Samoa.

“Actually a lot of Samoans live in Auckland, so a lot of the culture habits are similar. They are family people, they love the family.”

“One thing I noticed is that there are a lot of churches. I can see the importance of the community here,” Seth shared.

Seth he loves Samoa because it is not touristy. 

 “It is kind of good it is not too touristy. It is at a stage where not a lot of massive resorts are around, from what I see.” 

 “The local feel is nice, which is not build up. I would not change much; it is still good how it is not overdeveloped.”

 “The place is so green compared to other places I have been to and it is still quiet, no massive resorts or houses.”

 “I met some locals at the bar. I think they needed permission to get into the resort, which I guess is a bit weird. I don’t like that mentality. It is their land, but it is business I suppose.”

Seth learned a lot about Samoa through his interaction with the local people. 

 “Samoa is a nice place, great and nice people who always smile.”
